From Cold Storage to a Connected Marketplace
Food Oasis started with a simple idea: create the storage capacity needed to help local food move more reliably through our region.
Cold storage gave us a place to begin. It allowed us to support growers, hold inventory, coordinate deliveries, and better understand the operational challenges that exist between the farm and the final buyer. As the work grew, we realized that storage alone was only one part of the problem.
Farmers still needed stronger access to buyers. Buyers needed a simpler way to discover local products. Our team needed better tools to manage orders, inventory, fulfillment, and communication across an expanding network.
That is what led us to build the Food Oasis Marketplace.
The marketplace is becoming the digital layer that connects our physical infrastructure with the people who use it. It will help households, restaurants, organizations, and institutional buyers discover products from local farmers while giving Food Oasis a more streamlined way to manage purchasing, inventory, orders, and distribution.
Just as importantly, the marketplace gives us a better way to highlight the people behind the food. Farmers are not simply suppliers in our system. Their farms, products, stories, and growing practices are part of what makes the marketplace valuable.
What began as cold storage is evolving into a more connected food system—one that combines physical infrastructure, logistics, relationships, and technology to make local food easier to buy, easier to move, and easier to grow around.
The goal has never been technology for technology’s sake. The goal is to use better tools to strengthen the connection between farmers, buyers, and the communities they feed.
