Turn Intention Into Action

Talking about a more equitable food system is important. Building the systems that actually move food is where the work becomes real.

For Food Oasis, that shift became tangible through our Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) contract, which gave us the opportunity to help serve and fulfill food for 34 food banks across King County. The work required more than good intentions. It meant coordinating growers, sourcing food, managing logistics, organizing fulfillment, and making sure products reached community partners reliably.

The contract helped prove something we had believed from the beginning: local and regional food systems can create greater impact when farmers, distributors, community organizations, and public partners are connected through the right infrastructure.

For us, Turn Intention Into Action means moving beyond conversations about food access and putting the operational pieces in place to make it happen. It means creating purchasing opportunities for growers, strengthening distribution capacity, and helping community organizations receive fresh food more consistently.

The LFPA work became an important step in Food Oasis’ evolution—from an idea centered on community food access to an organization capable of coordinating food across a regional network.

Intentions describe the food system we want. Action is how we build it.
